“I dream of women being treated with respect, not out of compassion but due to their owncapabilities and consequent standing in the society.” These words will always reverberate in the hearts of students andstaff of SAVITRI Polytechnic for Women.

Late. Mrs. Raj Duggal
M.A, M.Ed (HES)
(Former) Principal
Govt. Senior Secondary School
Jasana (Faridabad)

“Freedom depends on economic conditions, even more than political. If a woman is not economically free and self-reliant she will have to depend on her husband or someone else and dependents are never free”.These words of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, the First Prime Minister of India, influenced Late (Mrs.) Raj Duggal. She had a rare professional acumen as she graduated in Fine Arts from Punjab University in 1961.

She was a woman with a strong belief, aiming for excellence in learning with a clear objective. She inspired hundreds of women to work and add to their family income. In her capacity as the Principal of Govt. Senior Secondary School, she conducted an intensive survey in the district of Faridabad in 1991.She discovered that the young girls, on their passing 10th or 10+2, had no option except to join a ‘silai center’ and marry, as their parents could never think of sending them to Delhi because of social and economic constraints.

This survey was the beginning of a strong foundation at Faridabad, towards the path of Economic Independence for women. She visualized that a completely specialized professional approach using the latest techniques was required to develop the students into effective professionals in various fields. She, therefore, founded SAVITRI Polytechnic for Women, for Vocational and Professional courses of women’s interest – Teachers’ Training-(Early Childhood) and Productive Arts, at par with top institutions in the country, on April 16, 1992, whichwas then, the first institution of its kind in Haryana and NCR.

In pursuit of her mission, inspiration and planning SAVITRI Polytechnic for Women, articulated and shaped out its activities and programmes in such a manner that it has now become a place for creative and productive art and center for Teachers’ Training and other courses for Empowering Women in the entire National Capital Region. SAVITRI Polytechnic offers Diplomas, Certificates, ‘Add-on’ and Hobby Courses, which enhance job opportunities and are useful for women in their day-to-day lives.

The Polytechnic provides value based training in a wide variety of vocational and professional courses to enable students to achieve their career goals as per their aptitude, interest, capabilities and choice. Due to her vision and mission, we continue the legacy and have already trainedthousands of women, most of whoeither have secured lucrative jobs or have become successfully self-employed. Indeed, this is a tribute to her vision that the Polytechnic has now entered the third decade of its service to the community.

In her death, SAVITRI Polytechnic for Womenhas lost a great visionary. She could serve for this cause for only one year before leaving for heavenly abode on April 16, 1993 while being in active service as Principal of a Govt. Senior Secondary School.

Our salutation to thee!
